Barley

Barley is the main feed grain in Estonia. It is easily digestible: the digestibility of its organic matter is 83%. Barley’s protein content is equal to that of oats (12.5% DM)

Barley meal is fed to all animals. Due it its high starch content it is most suitable for fattening. Barley has a low fat content and pigs that are fattened with it have dense and grainy white high-quality fat with a pleasant taste. Barley meal is a low-protein feed. The average metabolic energy content of one kilogram of barley meal dry matter is 13 MJ when fed to cattle and 14.5 when fed to pigs.
